Experience ESD on stage 

2025 SUMMER SEASON

ESD is excited to announce its 2025 Summer Season, featuring a captivating candlelight performance, the return of the biannual ESD Presents event, an international collaboration in Denmark, and community outreach initiatives.

Human | Candlelight
This summer, immerse yourself in an intimate, candlelit experience with Human | Candlelight, a unique solo performance by award-winning choreographer Eliot Smith. Performed by the exceptional Yamit Salazar and accompanied by a stunning original score by multi-award-winning composer Adam Johnson, this unforgettable performance will take place at Newcastle’s Alphabetti Theatre on Wednesday, June 4th at 7:30 PM. Following the performance, join Eliot Smith, Yamit Salazar, and Adam Johnson for an engaging post-show talk. This marks ESD’s debut at Alphabetti Theatre, so don’t miss this powerful evening. Community Outreach
In June, ESD will re-stage its community dance work HAWAY THE LASSES, performed by ten community participants from South-East Northumberland and surrounding areas. Additionally, ESD will deliver its Pit-Dance workshops for children in Northumberland. Supported by Northumberland County Council.

ESD Presents 2025
In July 2025, ESD Presents returns, hosted for the first time at Dance City, Newcastle upon Tyne. This biennial event celebrates dance innovation, with more details to come, including the announcement of the dance celebrant in early March 2025. Supported by the Abderrahim Crickmay Charitable Settlement and Dance City.

MERGE
To conclude the summer season, ESD will co-create an interdisciplinary performance exploring the sustainable transformation of the Odense region in Denmark. In collaboration with Danish composer Liv Vester Larsen and installation artist Nanna Rossenfeldt, Eliot Smith and two ESD dancers will travel from North East England to rural Denmark via train, sea, and foot. This ambitious international project highlights sustainable touring practices and promotes environmental awareness within the arts. Supported by the Danish Arts Foundation.

Human Online
For those unable to attend in person, a new recording of Human will be released online in June, allowing viewers to experience the electrifying performance from home. Supported by the Friends of ESD.
